What
is the interdisciplinary slant: what do we bring
to this because of our own research interests?
Nonroman scripts
--- need for standardization
Digital divide
is of particular concern because of our
interdisciplinary, global concern
Greater publicity for indigenous
scholars & getting our
materials into the Third World so that
the models we use can be understood,
whether or not they are accepted.
Collaboration
is integral to interdisciplinary studies
work: the issue of how we collaborate is
one to pursue further
Dispersal of
information makes our time even
scarcer, w/additional complications
stemming from distance, language,
bureaucratic obstacles, etc
Deconstructing
the Questionnaire:
Issues that were discussed:
Access: what is it:
Time & saving it
Technology: need for training,
hardware, software
Intellectual access
New model for evaluation of
scholarship:
Peer review without
traditional markers
How we judge each other
Define copyright of electronic
materials in a way that ensures scholarly
communication: making it affordable to
consumers & possible for producers to
remain viable.
What's missing:
Practical discussion of
resources: money
Adequate discussion of
sources other than textual ones
Adequate discussion of full
range of possibilities for collaboration/
cooperation: skills, institutions,
resources
Possible
proposal idea:
Collaboration: Need for
scholars/librarians/publishers to work together,
important not only as good technical strategy but
also important economic one
