HEADLINE: NINCH Information Exchange

The effective sharing of information, experiences and resources is at the core of NINCH's mission and of its core values. From the beginning, NINCH has been committed to finding ways to best do this. Our current programs to facilitate information exchange include the following:

NINCH-Announce
The NINCH announcement list ensures that subscribers can track the key information and resources they need to do their work by following technical, social and legal developments across the community. To Subscribe, email the message "Subscribe ninch-announce your name" to listproc@cni.org. To search and browse past announcements, visit www.cni.org/Hforums/ninch-announce.

Community Calendar
See the NINCH Community Calendar for conference announcements, calls for proposals and other events germane to the networking of cultural heritage.

Copyright Town Meetings
Digital copyright issues are among the hardest to tackle. New technology enables both unlimited capacity to disseminate and copy material (in ways that can violate the rights of copyright holders) and unlimited capacity to prevent access to works (which may violate the rights of readers, viewers and listeners). Legal, constitutional, economic and social forces are frequently in conflict and the balance seen in traditional copyright law appears to be in jeopardy.

Since 1997, NINCH has organized three series of Copyright Town Meetings across the nation that have informed participants of the facts and recent developments in copyright and enabled assembled experts and audiences to exchange opinion and develop new solutions for the future. For information on the next Copyright Town Meetings, for annual summary reports or for detailed reports on these meetings see the Town Meetings home page.

Best Achievements: The Community Report
Following two separate reviews of achievements in the field, NINCH has established an annual review of the best examples of current work in networking cultural heritage materials. by inviting key individuals to contribute short statements. These brief overviews include best examples, most promising prospects and point to the most pressing challenges that lie ahead.

The NINCH Forum
For NINCH members only, the NINCH Forum is the organization's annual meeting for discussion of community-wide issues and NINCH's continuing program. In 2000, the FORUM was hosted by the Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities (IATH) at the University of Virginia. In 2001, we met at the Getty Trust.
